Black Hawk Down

Two plus hours of total war. Bravura filmmaking pressed into the service of a grim and dispiriting tale, that of the ill-fated Ranger mission in Mogadishu. The movie is technically perfect, but doesn't really help us understand anything, except that a lot of fine young Americans (and a hundred times as many Somalis) died for no good reason.
