Heartbreak Ridge

Clint does a nice job directing here, and he is also excellent himself portraying a ciiche--the tough DI. And this DI is tough; there are a couple of good fights. As we can imagine, he whips his bunch of snotty recruits into a snappy fighting machine, and the only ihing I found a little offensive is the way the picture treats the pipsqueak invasion of Grenada as if it were Iwo Jima II. Was there really that much to gloat about? Seems a little Bathetic (B as in boy). But as genre pictures go, this is pretty good. Also the debut, I think, of Mario Van Peebles, whom I have decided is pretty good too.
