In the Line of Fire

“The Firm” wishes it had one-tenth the energy and suspense of this positively knockout thriller. A terrific script very tightly directed. Clint is very good as the aging Secret Service agent. He is at the point where he can show his vulnerability, and it only enhances his appeal. Malkovich, the reigning master of soft-spoken menace, is terrifyingly brilliant as Clint's very worthy adversary. Even the fabulous Rene Russo is given a chance to be (at least slightly) more than a sidekick. A very exciting two hours. (7/12/93)
