Kill Bill Vol. 1
I am nothing if not a Tarantino fan, and I am hardly squeamish about movie violence, but this nonstop roundelay of severed limbs and spouting blood geysers fails in any way to involve us in its characters or story (which involves a female assassin--played by Uma Thurman--taking revenge against former colleagues who tried to kill her). Thus, all the martial arts acrobatics and stylized cinema gimmicks seem to exist just for the delectation of the director. The audience, however, is left in the lurch.
