Monsoon Wedding

A Houston computer engineer returns to India to participate in an arranged marriage. Mira Nair's film (half in English, and half, I guess, in Hindi) is colorful, exuberant, and bursting with life. It's a bit unfocused (as if the wedding scene from "The Deer Hunter" were stretched out for a couple of hours) but wraps up in a very satisfying way. If nothing else, it shows that families are the same the world over when it comes to weddings.
