Obsession

The MAN--Brian DePalma--goes gauzy, soft-focus berserk in this romantic suspense melodrama. Basically he does none of the stuff that I normally love him for. Cliff Robertson, who I like, is queasily... well... obsessed, and Genevieve Bujold, who I hate, is in the picture, and that alone is enough to turn me off. The picture does have a good opening, and occasionally generates some suspense, but the rather improbable resolution just isn't a big enough payoff for what's come before. Oh well, nobody's perfect.
