Pale Rider

Clint Eastwood directed as well as starred in this Shaneesque western, and he does a nice job, The picture has sweep and color, It's a classic good versus bad scenario, with Clint as the invincible lonee (God? the Devil? Death? Who knows?) who appears to save the noble miners from the evil robber baron, Somewhat formula stuff (and I'll refrain from commenting on what some people viewed as the symbolic nature of the picture) but well handled, By far the best scene was the fight with the axe handles early in the picture, Nothing else quite reaches this level of pure visceral satisfaction (the climactic gun battle is a let-down by comparison) but it's fun watching all the same,
