Sleepless in Seattle

9/21/93 • Full Review

Written by: Ephron and sibling Starring: Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan

The extremely limited Ephron tries to replicate her single good picture ("When Harry Met Sally...") and comes up extremely short. It seems she is literally trying to clone the earlier picture, with Hanks playing the Billy Crystal part. I cannot fathom the popularity of this picture, since most of it is as thin and stale as old Melba toast. Precious little in the way of laughs, and the two principals don't even meet until the end. It has none of the sincerity or honesty of the first picture. Hanks mopes around, and Ryan does her usual flustered modern girl routine, but it all adds up to a big nothing. Go figure. (9/21/93)
