Stand by Me
Once again, I don't care what Kael says. I really liked this picture a lot. Perhaps the most evocative piece about coming-of-age that I've ever seen (not, granted, that I've seen a lot). But this really recaptures the feeling of being a kid, and going off to have adventures that seemed like the niggest thing in the world at the time, before we became jaded and corrupt. It also seems to me to be effective at portraying the era in which the events took place, at least as best as I can judge, it having been a bit before my time. Wonderful ensenble playing by the four young actors (or is it five?) and I think the way it's framed works well too. I think the last linessum it all up pretty well: "I never had any friends like the ones I had when I was twelve. God, does anybody?”
