The Flamingo Kid

This is the best thing that Matt Dillon has ever done. Now that may not be saying much, but really, he is quite good here, tapping emotional depths I wasn't even sure he possessed, The picture does a nice job of capturing the late 50's Brooklyn flavor, adolescent angst, and the dichotomy between solid middle class values and the lure of "easy" money, There are some very funny bits, many of which are neatly understated; you have to be watching to catch them, But that's what's nice about this picture; it doesn't scream at you, The final cardgame showdown is a bit trumped up (no pun intended) but we can forgive that, and I am in love with Janet Jones (yeah, me and a million other guys, right?)., A nice job, (From Garry Marshall, incidentally, who mafle his name in TV.)
