The Witches of Eastwick
Based on the novel by John Updike, this picture is of, about, and for Jack Nicholson. His Devil is a memorable charicature, profane, charming, witty, and vengeful. All the best scenes are his, all the best lines are his. In short, charming though the three women (Susan Sarandon, whose transformation is probably the funniest thing in the picture, Michele Pfeiffer, Cher) are, the film kind of fizzles when Nicholson is off screen. Is he reprising himself a bit too often with these real and figurative devil roles? Maybe, but he's so good at it, who cares?
