Crocodile Dundee II

I should have known better. I went to this in the sort of half hope that they might have retained the spirit of the original, which I enjoyed. Suffice it to say that in the attempt to make it Bigger! Better! Funnier! they have managed to drain away all the offbeat charm and quirky energy of the original. They have cosmopolitanized Mick, and in the process, they have made him rather humorless, as he "adjusts" to the Big City. They have added a foolish drug plot and stretched the plot to the breaking point just to get Mick back on his home turf, so that he can give the bad guys a taste of Down-Under Magic. The first film managed to retain some of the mystery of the outback; now it's just played for smiles. There are a few decent scenes, but almost no laughs. This is no fun. They should have left well enough alone.
