Crossing Delancey

1/9/93 • Full Review

Starring: Peter Riegert, Amy Irving

An infuriatingly bad picture, without a single original thought or idea, made even more annoying by the fact that the filmmakers obviously thought this stuff was fresh. There is not a single character in this picture who is not the most obvious stereotype. Calling this film predictable is too kind. All of the artsy types are portrayed as selfish jerks, and the only "good" man is a salt-of-the-earth pickle salesman. Also amazingly reactionary, especially coming from a woman director. All the single women are portrayed as pathetic, desperate creatures, pitifully gathering their take-home salads (sob) for miserable, lonely meals. The trappings of career and friends are merely a cover up for the fact that the only thing that will make them truly happy is... a man. This is a movie that fails without even trying. (1/9/93)
