Dragonslayer
Ahem--I also saw this one on Pauline's rec. A big budget costume dragon melodrama. Very pretty, and well photographed, and the dragon--Vermithrax Pejorative (whose name may be the best thing in the movie)--is a good monster. But I thought the hero was kind of a drip, and the movie was too long by at least a half hour, and they fell back on that most tired and tiresome of gimmicks: they don't let us see the dragon (except for an occasional claw) until about 2/3 of the way through the picture. This is stupid; we know they ARE going to show us the dragon, so why annoy us by making us wait? You spend a lot of money on a good dragon, so use it. If that's the only way you can get some suspense going, better check your screenplay.
