Fatal Attraction

Urban sexual paranoia personified, directed by Adrian Lynne. Glenn Close creates a truly scary character, and you actually start to feel sorry for Michael Douglas, even if he is a bit of a twerp (and anyway, who would cheat on Anne Archer?). This was more than a movie, it was a social event, giving a name and a face to the 80's fear of everything bad that could happen to you if you had casual sex. Ultimately it really is nothing more than another psycho-killer picture, but Lynne (as usual) knows how to push all the right buttons, even up to a wingding climax which proves once again that nothing is so dangerous as a woman whose home is threatened. But the creators of this picture knew enough to tap into the underlying Puritan guilt complex of the American people, so that the picture tends to stick in your mind, like a bad accident you saw on the street. Scary, and worth seeing, but I wouldn't let it alter your personal philosophy of life.
