Fearless

Starring: Jeff Bridges, Rosie Perez, Isabella Rossellini, Tom Hulce, John DeLancie

A wonderful, possibly great, picture. Actually attempts to confront real questions--life, death, loss, redemption--rather than just showing a lot of cars exploding. The script is superb, and Weir directs brilliantly. The actors are all superb (even Perez, for whom I have not had much fondness in the past) but Bridges stands out, generating some real star power. His is a deeply felt performance; he brings a flawed character completely to life. The movie is the flip side of "Hero," but, like that other (underrated) film, I fear this one will not find the audience it deserves. Too bad, for it really is extraordinary. (11/3/93)
