Predator

Arnold Schwarzenegger flexes in this ultimately unsurprising version of “Rambo” meets “Alien.” Actually, it was a pretty good premise, and might have led to a nicely ironic explication of the fact that all our muscular heroes and weaponry might be no match for something that is REALLY dangerous, say, like a creature from outer space. The action is furious, though strangely uncompelling, and of course the picture degenerates into a miasma of pyrotechnics. The climax is a wholly unbelievable duel between Arnold and the creature. Guess who wins? The picture also suffers from the "Dragonslayer Syndrome" in which they make a monster but never quite show it to you. I guess it's cheaper that way.
