Red Dawn

Rock 'em-Sock 'em robots with an anti-Communist bent from John Milius (late of “Conan the Barbarian” and others). A curious bit of hawkish jingoism; it's never quite clear who is doing what to whom and why. But there are a few striking scenes (including the shock troops landing outside the school) and the plucky teens who battle the invaders (including Patrick -Svayze) are appealing, enough so that after a while the relentless violence starts to become a bit disconcerting. The film left me feeling rather depressed. Maybe Milius intended that. Then again, maybe not.
