Red Heat

Well. Walter Hill, who is one of my favorite directors, reprises an earlier film (“48 Hrs.”) with mixed results. It is OK but no more. Lots of bone crunching action. The twist here is that instead of a cop and a con, we get a cop and a cop, one Russian (Arnold "Teutonic" Schwarzenegger), and one American (Jim "I am a notable talent but I keep being wasted" Belushi). And, to top it off, this time it's not the American who plays by Dirty Harry's rules, but the Soviet guy. Arnold is suitably imposing, and Belushi cracks wise, but the film sputters instead of igniting. Maybe a script problem; Hill's direction seems sharp enough.
