Starman

This picture's biggest claim to fame is that the studio (columbia I think) turned down E. T. in favor of it. (Whoops!) Really though, it's a sweet picture about a visiting alien who falls in love with Karen Allen (who wouldn't?) and véce versa. Has some sappy moments but overall is pretty effective (though John Sayles played the theme better in “Brother From Another Planet”). Highlight of the picture is Jeff Bridges, as the lost alien. He plays it just right--too much and it'd be slapstick, too little and it'd be granite--and he's very believable.
