The Big Chill

Had to re-see this, to see if it was as good as I had initially thought. I'm not sure. It's pretty good, though, and you can't beat that cast, or the ensemble playing they pull off. It's just that all the stuff I had thought was so swift the first time looked kind of gimmicky the third time around. But I suppose Kasdan scores his points well enough, and there are still some great tunes, and good use of them. And in spite of everything, the high points of the film are inspired (I really liked William Hurt interviewing himself on video). A good picture, but maybe its technical slickness makes it look arty and pretentious when compared to Sayles' “Secaucus Seven” which practically writhes with "real life."
