The Company of Wolves

Being a sucker for werewolf movies, not to mention the whole mythos, this struck me as a good idea: fairy tale retelling with a violent and erotic slant, underscoring the vicious essence of most fairy tales (maybe like Sondheim’s “Into The Woods”??) But the film is a little too murky and undefined for me. Though some of the effects are geeat, and they create a very spooky atmosphere, laden with dread, the picture doesn't plug into the psyche quite as much as I would have liked. I think I would have wanted some insight as to the implications of the existence of Fairy Tales in our day-to-day lives (what does it imply about the true nature of man?). What we get instead is just a more explicit rendering of the tales, which is fun of course (though the deliberate blurring of dream and reality is a device which always irritates me), but there could have been more here.
