Johnny Dangerously
Got mixed reviews, but I found this to be an appealing, affectionate spoof of the oold gangster pictures. Usually funny when it wants to be. Michael Keaton (in the lead role) is a terrific comic--easy and natural; he plays Johnny straight, just the way it had to be. The one sour note is Joe Piscopo, wasted in the role of the arch nemesis (A role that I can't understand his taking) which is growly and unfunny. The picture would have been much better with one change: in a movie like this, it is vital that the second half move even faster than the first half, lest the audience grow boned. Here the second half moves slower, so things start to drag. But overall, a good effort.
