Streets of Fire

Wow. 1I'll say it again: wow. Walter Hill may just be my second favorite director. This picture is billed as a "Rock and Roll Fantasy" and, incredibly, that's just what it is. This picture has more visual energy in one frame than all of “Vice Squad” put together. Credit Hill, who also co-wrote. The movie grabs you in the first second and just doesn't put you down until the end. It's a cartoon, sure, but what a great one, set in a created world where everybody is young (it could be on another planet). The fifties overlay (with 60's music) is slightly off all the time and so comes through a really hip. You can't fault the authenticity, because no one’s ever been there. Disne Lane (as the kidnapped rock and roller) is hot, and Micheal Pare redefines the dangerous unshaven look. Mone of a visual roller coaster than a movie but hold onto your hat.
