Streets of Gold
Well, we all know by now that I am a sucker for just about any boxing movie, and this is no exception. Klaus Maria Brandauer is excellent as an exiled former Soviet boxing champion who helps two brash young Americans (also well played by actors whose names I unfortunately cannot remember) train for a major amateur competition. The scene where Klaus humiliates the Black kid without laying a finger on him is a minor classic. The photography and direction are good, and the picture avoids too much unrealistic Rocky-esque hyperbole, while sneaking in a little message about dignity and determination. Nice job.
